President Donald Trump appears to have a green light to personally hand over the FIFA World Cup to the winner in July and even join them in celebration, despite being condemned by football fans across the globe for joining Chelsea as they lifted the Club World Cup last summer.

Trump’s stunt last summer led to an awkward interaction with Reece James and scorn from fans both in the stadium and around the world.

Later this summer, at the World Cup Final held in New Jersey, it seems that Trump will be allowed to do the same thing.

According to talkSPORT, FIFA ‘have no objection to Trump breaking presentation protocol and handing the World Cup trophy directly to the winning captain, and remaining in the thick of the celebrations.’

The outlet says Trump has already been told by FIFA that they want him to hand the World Cup trophy to the eventual champions.

Traditionally, FIFA protocol states that the trophy is placed on a plinth and will be carried by a member of the winning team onto the celebration podium.

The outlet reports that FIFA will ‘leave it to Trump’s own discretion as to whether he wishes to stay in with the team during the lift or remain with other executives during the ceremony.’
