The head coach of Nigerian Women Wrestling team, Akuh Purity, has hailed the influence of Nigeria Wrestling Federation President, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, after his continued drive to sponsor Nigerian wrestlers to international competitions earned three wrestlers a scholarship transfer to one of America’s prestigious universities
Kolawole Esther, Christinah Ogunsanya, and Adekoye Jumoke who were in William Penn University, an NAIA institution, secured scholarships to Iowa State University, a prestigious NCAA Division I program in the USA.
Reacting to the development, Coach Purity described the athletes’ transfer as a defining moment in their academic and sporting journeys, noting that it offers them the opportunity to compete in NCAA Division I—the highest and most competitive level of collegiate athletics in the United States.
He said the achievement reflects the immense potential of Nigerian wrestlers when provided with the right support and international exposure.
Purity attributed the achievement to the Nigeria Wrestling Federation’s leadership, adding that the Adeniyi’s continuous financial support and investment in athletes’ growth has opened doors for Nigerian wrestlers to compete at the highest level.
He confirmed that the athletes’ transfer was made possible by their consistent participation in international competitions and their impressive performances on the global stage, which attracted the attention of recruiters from Iowa State University.
According to him, their sustained excellence in major tournaments ultimately earned them the opportunity to pursue both academic and athletic careers in a consistently one of U.S national top tier universities
