We Must Innovate or Be Left Behind”-NBA President

There are moments in our professional journey that remind you why the Bar is not just an association, but a true community bound by shared purpose and enduring relationships. My visit to the NBA Jalingo Branch for their 2026 Law Week was one of such moments.

From the very warm and rousing welcome I received on arrival, it was clear that what exists in Taraba goes beyond collegiality. Here, I have found not just colleagues, but genuine allies, people willing to make sacrifices in the collective interest of the Bar. I am deeply grateful for the support the Branch has consistently shown me and the Association.

I was particularly encouraged by the strong presence of members of the judiciary at the event. It spoke volumes about the healthy and productive Bar and Bench relationship in Taraba, something we must continue to nurture if we are to strengthen our justice system.

In reflecting on the theme of the Law Week, “Raising the Bar: Equipping Lawyers for the Modern Legal Landscape,” I noted that the world is evolving, and we must evolve with it. There was a time, not too long ago, when laptops were not part of our learning or practice. Today, they are indispensable. In the same way, we saw how Nokia once dominated the tech space but lost relevance because it failed to innovate, while Apple Inc., through products like the iPhone, redefined the market by embracing change.

The lesson for us as legal practitioners is clear: innovation is no longer a luxury, it is a necessity. We must be willing to adapt, to learn, and to leverage technology in our practice. This applies not only to lawyers but also to the judiciary, as we collectively work towards a more efficient, accessible, and responsive system of justice.

I commend the Jalingo Branch for choosing such a timely and forward looking theme, and for their consistent participation in Bar activities across the country. Your commitment to the growth and unity of the NBA does not go unnoticed.

The future of our profession is already here. The real question is whether we are ready for it.
