Adaejah Hodge made history by winning the women’s 200m gold at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 22.07, becoming the first female athlete to win Commonwealth gold for the British Virgin Islands.
But the historic moment was overshadowed by a frosty reception, with rivals offering no hugs or congratulations after the race.
The tension stems from Hodge’s previous doping suspension after testing positive for GW1516 at the 2024 World U20 Championships.
Although her ban was reduced after she assisted sports authorities, some athletes remain unhappy with her return.
Australian sprinter Torrie Lewis said she wasn’t surprised by the lack of congratulations.
Hodge, however, brushed it off, saying she was fine without the hugs and was focused on celebrating her historic achievement.
