Pursuant to Section 16 of the National Sports Commission Act, 2023, the National Sports Commission (NSC) has approved the constitution of a caretaker committee for the Nigeria Judo Federation (NJF), following the dissolution of the Federation’s Board  by the International Judo Federation.

The six-member committee, which takes immediate effect, has been constituted as a transitional administrative arrangement to oversee the affairs of the Federation pending the conduct of fresh elections and the inauguration of a duly elected board.

The Caretaker Committee is chaired by  Sheriff Hammed, while Ekuta Catherine Ewa, Sule Musa, Bashir Musa Bassey and Oladipupo Idowu will serve as members. Amayo Ngozi will serve as Secretary.

The Commission said the committee has been mandated to oversee the day-to-day administration and affairs of the Nigeria Judo Federation and facilitate the necessary reforms required to place the Federation on a sound administrative footing.

Specifically, the committee is charged with amending the Federation’s constitution to reflect provisions required by the International Judo Federation (IJF), convening an Annual General Meeting for the consideration and approval of the amended constitution, and organising elections during the transitional period.

The committee will also be responsible for ensuring a smooth and orderly transition to the duly elected Board of the Nigeria Judo Federation upon the conclusion of the electoral process.

The NSC charged the Caretaker Committee to discharge its responsibilities with diligence, transparency and impartiality, while placing the overall interest and development of judo in Nigeria above all other considerations.

The Commission further directed the committee to work collaboratively with all relevant stakeholders to ensure effective administration and continued development of judo in Nigeria throughout the transitional period. The appointment will remain in place pending the conclusion of the electoral process and the assumption of office by the duly elected Board.
