Nigeria’s national 100m record holder, Kanyinsola Ajayi stormed to victory in a sensational 9.72s at the finals of the NCAA Championships.
His time time would have been both a national and African record but the illegal wind denied him the glory as the allowed wind limit is 2.0mps,whereas the wind in his winning time was was 2.2mps
The sprinter has remained consistent this season and it was not a surprise that he did not disappoint when it mattered most.
Ajayi has now consolidated himself as the fastest Nigerian man in history and is also the second fastest all-conditions NCAA performer in history.
He joins Olapade Adenikan-1992 and Divine Oduduru-2019 as the only Nigerians to have won the NCAA 100m title.
Adenikan who represented UTEP Miners at the NCAA achieved a rare sprint double that year in winning both the 100m and 200m crowns.
All eyes will now be on Ajayi to carry same form to the Commonwealth Games next month in Glasgow, Scotland.
