The leadership of the National Sports Commission led by the Chairman, Shehu Dikko and the Director General, Bukola Olopade have met with FIFA on the state of Nigerian football after days of uncertainty that engulfed football administration in the country.
Reports from Zurich say the meeting with FIFA led by its President,Gianni Infantino on the state of Nigerian football was engaging and fruitful.
The meeting was occasioned by the recent mass resignations by the NFF board led by former President, Ibrahim Gusau and the General Secretary, Mohammed Sanusi.
There has been remours and misinformation that FIFA was threatening to sanction Nigeria, if the country fails to explain the sudden mass resignation, which could be due to direct government pressure.
Report on X from Michelo Obasino however poured cold water on the alleged threat from FIFA as his report suggests a “fruitful meeting with FIFA on the state of Nigerian football after recent mass resignations” that rocked the football house.
After months of undue pressure on the leadership of the football house to quit the scene after repeated failures of the national teams and resistance to open the democratic space to accommodate more critical stakeholders, the former NFF President, Ibrahim Gusau last Thursday bowed to pressure and resigned at a world press confeernce in Abuja.
Gusau cited his love for Nigeria’s football as his reasons for quitting, saying it was a privilege to have served at the highest level of football in the country and look forward to still contributing more in the years ahead given his contacts at the regional and continental levels of football administration.
