Newly recruited teachers in Sokoto State will soon receive their salaries as the state government concludes the process of enrolling them on the state payroll.
The State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmad Ladan Ala, disclosed this while declaring open a three day induction training for the newly recruited teachers in Sokoto.
The training, held at the Auditorium of the Sultan Muhammad Maccido Institute for Qur’an and General Studies, Sokoto, is sponsored by the Sokoto State Government through the Teachers’ Service Board (TSB), with support from Plan International Nigeria.
Represented at the opening ceremony by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Dr. Sanusi Aliyu Binji, the Commissioner explained that the delay in payment of salaries was due to the ongoing due process required to enroll the newly recruited teachers into the state payroll and ensure that they meet all the requirements for full integration into the state civil service.
Professor Ala said the state government had put measures in place to ensure transparency throughout the process, adding that Governor Ahmad Aliyu had constituted a committee to oversee the exercise.
He said the state government remained committed to improving the education sector at all levels and called on the people of Sokoto State to continue supporting the administration in its efforts to deliver sustainable development.
According to him, the government’s commitment to education is part of its broader development agenda aimed at improving the lives of citizens across all sectors.
Earlier, the Executive Chairman of the Sokoto State Teachers’ Service Board, Professor Mustafa Namakka Tukur, said the induction training was designed to properly orient and prepare the newly recruited teachers for the responsibilities and challenges of the teaching profession.
Professor Tukur disclosed that about 1,200 newly recruited teachers would benefit from the training across the three senatorial districts of the state.
He explained that the training currently being conducted in Sokoto Central Zone was for teachers posted to the Teachers’ Service Board and serving in schools within the zone.
He added that similar training sessions would subsequently be organised in Yabo for teachers serving in Sokoto South Zone and Gwadabawa for those serving in Sokoto East Zone.
In her remarks, the Project Coordinator of Plan International Nigeria, Sadiya Abbas, commended the Sokoto State Government for its unwavering commitment to the development of education and for creating opportunities to strengthen the capacity of teachers across the state.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the State Teachers’ Service Board, A’ishatu Zarummai, urged the newly recruited teachers to remain punctual, disciplined, committed and hardworking in the discharge of their duties.
She charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by the state government by demonstrating professionalism and dedication to their students and schools.
The opening ceremony featured goodwill messages from the Executive Secretary of the Female Education Board, Shehu Aliyu; the Executive Secretary of the Agency for Mass Education, Dr. Nura Bello Abubakar; the National Teachers’ Institute (NTI) State Coordinator; and other education stakeholders.
The training is being facilitated by Dr. Dangaladima Wadatau of Shehu Shagari College of Education and his team.
