The Nigeria Democratic Congress is becoming the new bride in the country’s political space with more politicians trooping into its fold in the latest wave of defections and realignment ahead of the 2027 elections.

VDCInsights reports that while the NDC is gaining ground, especially at the National Assembly, the African Democratic Congress, ADC, seems to be the worse for it.
Following on the heels of the defection of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso to the NDC on Sunday, 18 members of the house of Representatives have dumped the party for the NDC.
Seventeen of the lawmakers moved to the NDC, while one member crossed over to the ruling All Progressives Congress .
The development was formally communicated to members of the Green Chamber on the floor by the Deputy Speaker,Benjamin Kalu who presided over plenary, and read their letters of resignation.
Those who defected from ADC to NDC include Yusuf Umar Datti representing Kura/Madobi/Garun Mallam Federal Constituency of Kano State, Harris Okonkwo of Idemili North/Idemili South in Anambra State, Sani Adamu of Minjibir/Ungogo in Kano, and Thaddeus Attah of Eti-Osa Federal Constituency in Lagos State.
Others are George Ozodinobi, Deputy Minority Whip, representing Njikoka/Anaocha/Dunukofia in Anambra State; Lilian Obiageli of Awka North/Awka South, OluwaSeyi Sowunmi of Ojo Federal Constituency in Lagos, Peter Anekwe of Anambra East and West, Zakari Umar Mukhtari of Tarauni in Kano, and George Olawande of Amuwo Odofin in Lagos.
The lawmakers blamed their realignment to internal party crises, and unresolved issues from the national to the ward level.
