Nigeria’s elite list of quartermilers is increasing by the day following on the footstaps of Samuel Ogazi, who is making waves in the United States of America with his standout performances so far this season.
Ogazi has been so impressive raising hopes of Nigeria challenging for possible podium finish in any major continental of global championship in the event.
There is another name set to join this elite list, in the person of Tyler Johnson.
The former Ohio State athlete reached the NCAA 400m final twice, in 2021 and 2022, and owns a Personal Best (PB) of 44.95s.
After stepping away from the sport for 4 years, Johnson completed a transfer of allegiance from the United States to Nigeria in March 2026.
He took a step forward yesterday at the Royal City Inferno in Canada, clocking a Season’s Best of 45.49s to finish 2nd in the men’s 400m.
The performance moves him to No. 6 among Nigerian men over 400m in 2026.
