Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the 2027 general elections.
This was announced by the Chairman of the APC Governorship Affirmation Committee, Muhammad Mukhtar Birniwa, during the affirmation of Governor Ahmed Aliyu as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election.
Speaking shortly after his affirmation, Governor Ahmed Aliyu expressed his determination to consolidate on the people-oriented projects executed by his administration over the last three years.
According to him, issues relating to security, infrastructure, religious affairs, and social welfare will continue to receive priority attention from his administration.
He said “I want to assure the people of Sokoto State that we will continue to do all that is humanly possible to support our security agencies in curbing banditry and other criminal activities in the state,” .
The governor also assured the people of more dividends of democracy if re-elected for a second term.
He added “I am committed to serving the people even better than we have done in the last three years,” .
Governor Aliyu appealed to the people of the state to continue supporting government policies and programmes in the overall interest of Sokoto State.
He thanked the people for their continued support, prayers, and goodwill towards his administration, and urged them to sustain the momentum.
VDCInsights reports that the governor also assured new entrants into the APC that they would be treated fairly and carried along without discrimination.
Speaking at the event, the APC leader in Sokoto State, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for living up to expectations through the execution of various developmental projects across the state.
Wamakko states “Mr Governor, I am very pleased with the way you are addressing the challenges that had hindered the development of our state in the past,”.
He also commended the people of the state for their continued support for the Ahmed Aliyu administration and urged them to sustain the gesture.
Earlier, the Sokoto State APC Chairman, Haruna Adiya, highlighted some of the achievements recorded by the governor, including the payment of accumulated gratuities, prompt payment of salaries, youth empowerment initiatives, and the promotion of Islamic affairs in the state.
Asiya said “These laudable achievements have necessitated the decision of the people of the state to unanimously endorse you for a second term,” .
In his remarks, the Chairman of the APC Governorship Affirmation Committee, Muhammad Mukhtar Birniwa, lauded Governor Aliyu’s transformative agenda, describing the developmental projects executed across the state as visible and impactful.
He said “We will report to the APC National Secretariat the impressive developmental projects we have seen, which your administration has executed within just three years,” .
Birniwa also extolled the cordial relationship between Governor Ahmed Aliyu and APC leader, Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, describing it as key to the successes recorded by the APC-led administration in the state.
He further praised Senator Wamakko for what he described as his fatherly role, not only in Sokoto State but across Nigeria.
He added “Sir, we need leaders like you who remain close to the people,”.
He also commended the delegates for the orderly manner in which they conducted themselves during the affirmation exercise.
