Manchester City have completed the signing of Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea for a joint-British transfer record £125m.
The Fernandez deal takes City’s spending to a Premier League record £458m for a single transfer window, surpassing Liverpool’s £415m from last summer.
However, City have also achieved around £300m from player sales this summer.
Fernandez joined Chelsea from Benfica in 2023 for a then-British record fee of £107m, with his latest switch matching the £125m that Liverpool paid for Alexander Isak also on transfer deadline day last summer.
The clubs negotiated over the past 24 hours and reached an agreement earlier on Tuesday.
Fernandez, who had been keen to join Real Madrid earlier this summer, was booed by Chelsea fans during their friendly against Real Sociedad and again when he came on as a substitute in their Premier League opener at Fulham.
The 25-year-old was not involved in Chelsea’s 4-3 Premier League win over Brighton on Sunday or their 2-0 Carabao Cup victory against Luton three days earlier, as reports in Argentina suggested he asked to be left out of the squad.
…Everton Lose On Balogun
Everton‘s move for Folarin Balogun collapsed after the player decided against proceeding with a transfer.
The deal was renegotiated after Everton initially agreed a £40m deal with Monaco for Balogun, 25, because of an issue with his medical.
The United States striker is understood to have decided against going ahead with the move.
Everton had submitted a deal sheet before the window closed at 23:00 BST to try to get the Balogun deal over the line.
Balogun had emerged as a late target after Guinea-Bissau frontman Beto completed a permanent move to Serie A club Fiorentina.
The Toffees did also explore moves for Manchester United striker Joshua Zirkzee and Aston Villa frontman Tammy Abraham, but were unable to convince either to join.
Also on transfer deadline day, Everton signed Jack Grealish on a season-long loan deal from Manchester City.
Grealish spent the 2025-26 season on loan with Everton, making 20 appearances, before sustaining a season-ending foot injury in January.
The 30-year-old had been linked with other teams – including boyhood club Aston Villa – but has opted to reunite with David Moyes on Merseyside.
…Chelsea Miss Out On Camara
Lamine Camara will be staying at Monaco after the Senegal midfielder’s £47.1m move to Chelsea collapsed.
The 22-year-old completed a medical in France earlier on Tuesday evening but his switch to Chelsea fell through shortly after the transfer window closed at 23:00 BST.
They had two bids rejected by the Ligue 1 side before Monaco eventually lowered their asking price when Folarin Balogun’s move to Everton came into renewed doubt.
Chelsea fully expected the move to go through, and had already sanctioned Enzo Fernandez’s joint-British transfer record £125m switch to Manchester City in anticipation of Camara joining.
But Chelsea were left furious when the club say they were informed by Monaco in writing that a deal for Camara would not go ahead.
While Chelsea say no explanation was provided, sources with knowledge of the situation have told BBC Sport that they believe Monaco’s stance was influenced by Everton‘s proposed move for United States international Balogun.
…Adarabioyo Joins Spurs On Permanent Deal, As Mudryk
Tottenham have signed winger Mykhailo Mudryk and defender Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea on transfer deadline day.
Mudryk joins Spurs on loan until the end of the season while 28-year-old centre-back Adarabioyo has completed a permanent move worth up to £12m to the north London side.
As part of the agreement, Spurs have the option to turn Mudryk’s move permanent for £75m.
The move reunites the Ukraine international, 25, with Spurs boss Roberto de Zerbi, who was his manager at Shakhtar Donetsk before his move to Chelsea in 2023.
Mudryk resolved a doping case with the Football Association last month, but has not played a competitive match since November 2024.
Meanwhile, Adarabioyo’s move makes him Spurs’ 10th signing during a busy summer that has seen them spend over £300m on transfers.
The former England Under-19 international made 70 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Fulham in the summer of 2024.
He will replace Kevin Danso at Spurs following the Austria international’s loan move to Sunderland.
..Newcastle Sign on Fernandez-Pardo
Newcastle United have signed forward Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille for an initial £51.4m.
Fernandez-Pardo flew into Tyneside on Monday night to have a medical and sign a long-term contract.
The 21-year-old said he was “very proud to be at such a big club” following talks with head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Fernandez-Pardo was left out of Lille’s squad for the 2-2 draw against Paris St-Germain last week and ordered to train away from the first-team squad until his future was resolved.
The forward has been a long-standing target of Newcastle‘s – dating back to former head coach Eddie Howe’s time in charge – and fits the age range the club have been targeting.
Of those players aged 21 and under across Europe’s big five leagues last season, Fernandez-Pardo ranked second for big chances (21), fifth for touches in the opposition box (184) and shots on target (30), and seventh for goals and assists combined (13).
His ability to play in a number of positions across the frontline also made him an attractive target as Jaissle looked to strengthen his squad.
