President Federation Cup: Fierce Battles in Benin City, Enugu, As Four Teams Seek Final Tickets!

FC Robo Queens of Lagos, conquerors of multi-titlists Rivers Angels in the quarter finals, will fancy their chances against Heartland Queens of Owerri in the first semi final of this year’s President Federation Cup women’s competition at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City on Wednesday.

However, the girls from Owerri have the mettle to put up their own arguments in the 90-minute encounter, having eliminated Dragon Fury Ladies, Ahudiyannem Queens and Ibom Angels on their way to the last-four stage.

On their part, Lagos-based Robo Queens saw off Rangers Women of Enugu, Remo Stars Ladies and Rivers Angels. Most women football followers saw the defeat of Rivers Angels by the Queens in the semi finals as an upset, and are already tipping the Lagos girls for a place in the grand finale scheduled for Saturday, 11th July in Asaba.

In the second semi final, Sunshine Queens from Akure will tango with highly-rated Nasarawa Amazons from Lafia at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, with 4pm also the kick-off time.

The girls from Lafia have remained at the top level in Nigeria football for many years now, and have maintained their place among the front-runners with consistency in performance and results. To get to this stage, they swept past Osklean FC in the Round of 32, and then survived penalty shootouts against FC Naija Ratels of Abuja and high-flying Edo Queens in subsequent stages to reach the last four.

Sunshine Queens, on their part, gloriously accounted for Solo Wonders in the Round of 32, before dismissing Plateau United Queens in the Round of 16 and shocking Confluence Queens of Lokoja by a lone goal in the quarter finals.
