Critical stakeholders in Ikwuano, Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency ,have unanimously demanded that the Federal House of Representatives seat, currently occupied by Obi Aguocha of the Labor Party (LP) , be retained in Umuahia North State (Ohuhu) Constituency.
The stakeholders argued that this decision is in line with the agreement reached by Ndi Ikwuano , Umuahia North and Umuahia South Federal Constituency,in 2019.
Speaking to VDCInsights reporter on the issue, Anderson Akaliro, Member representing Umuahia North State Constituency in Abia State House of Assembly, revealed that critical stakeholders in the Federal Constituency reached the agreement for stability and spirit of togetheness.
Akaliro pointed out that the three Local Government Areas, reached an agreement that Sam Onuigbo from Ikwuano should serve two terms, which he had served meritoriously for two terms of eight (8) years.
Similarly, another critical stakeholder, Professor Roy Mbakwe, affirmed the position of Akaliro and recalled that the letters of that agreement gave impetus to Sam Onuigbo,from Ikwuano, to serve for eight years.
Prof Mbakwe noted that before the agreement, each clan in the Federal Constituency had rotated the seat on a single term basis.
He stressed that adherence to the agreement would ensure political stability,ensure the principle of “live and let live” in the Federal Constituency .
According to Professor Mbakwe going by the 2019 pact, two terms have come to stay in the Federal Constituency,warning against sacrificing it for selfish interests.
He also appreciated the Critical Stakeholders in the Federal Constituency for the well thought out agreement, which has enhanced the seniority and efficiency of the Legislator and benefits the Constituency and constituents the more.
Speaking on the development, the Councilor representing Nkwoegwu Ward in Umuahia North Legislative Council, Uzo Uko, argued that adherence would ensure that the polity is devoid of rancour , political upheaval and mistrust that may result, if the race becomes a free for all contest.
Uko argued that if every aspirant from all the Clans in the Federal Constituency is allowed to throw in their hats into the ring,there are likely to be negative consequences.
It would recalled that the Council of Traditional Rulers in the Federal Constituency recently held a meeting in Ikwuano Local Government Area where they addressed the media restating their stand on the 2019 agreement
