Morocco’s ASFAR Rabat have been hit hard by CAF after crowd trouble marred their African Champions League showdown with Egypt’s Al Ahly.
The Moroccan giants will play their next two home matches behind closed doors and have been fined a staggering $100,000 following fan misconduct during last month’s fiery Group B encounter. Objects were hurled onto the pitch, laser beams were aimed at players, and chaos spilled onto the field.
CAF’s breakdown of the sanctions tells the story of a night gone wrong: $20,000 for laser use, $15,000 for bottle throwing, $15,000 for ball boys entering the pitch during play, and a hefty $50,000 for the most serious offense is the throwing a heavy metal construction tool onto the field.
ASFAR will serve the ban in crucial group games against JS Kabylie on January 30 and Young Africans on February 3, both without the backing of their home crowd.
On the pitch, the pressure is already on. Al Ahly top Group B with four points, Young Africans sit second on goal difference, while ASFAR languish third with just one point.
Now silenced at home, ASFAR must let their football do the talking or risk crashing out early.
