There seems to be peace in sight for the People’s Democratic Party with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike still insisting on the party meeting certain conditions for lasting peace to return the party.
Despite Wike having publicly confessed that he will work for President Bola Tinubu and invariably the All Progressives Congress come 2027, he still insists the party must meet his conditions for peace.
Many political watchers are still wondering why the PDP has not been able to suspend or sack him from the party, even as he has threatened that nobody has the powers to suspend or sack him.
While the party seems to have resolved a number issues regarding zoning and fixing the convention for Oyo State in November, Wike Monday night held a late-night emergency meeting with PDP stakeholders from across the 36 states and the FCT,
At the meeting. the FCT Minister said the planned PDP national convention will be rendered invalid, if the following six demands are not met.
These are the Wike’s six-point demands are as follows:
– Fresh congresses must be held in Ebonyi and Anambra states, in strict compliance with subsisting court judgments
– A new South East Zonal Congress must be urgently conducted.
– The outcome of the South South Congress in Calabar, already upheld by the courts, must be respected.
– PDP should immediately conduct the Ekiti LGA congresses, in line with judicial pronouncements.
– There should be no micro-zoning of offices, beyond the general zoning formula already adopted by the National Executive Committee NEC, to maintain peace and stability.
– The national chairmanship position must remain in the North Central, consistent with the zoning arrangement of the 2021 convention.
Will the party bow to Wike or dismiss his threat and go ahead with the planned National Convention?
