SUPER EAGLES B

Meanwhile, the Home-Based Eagles will smile home with $300,000 about N450m from the Confederation of African Football, CAF, for their participation at 8th African Nations Championship, despite their group exit.

The reward is for finishing third behind Senegal and Sudan who both progressed from group C.

The Super Eagles B defeated Congo’s Red Devils 2-0 in the Tanzanian capital, Dar-es-Salaam on Tuesday, though it was not enough to see them through

The Congolese had hopes of inching their way into the knockout rounds before kick-off, with two points from their first two matches, including a draw with champions Senegal.

On the contrary, Nigeria had already crashed out after losing their first two games, but needed a face saving game before returning home.

And goals from Anas Yusuf connected home beautifully, a headed pass by Sikiru Alimi in the 56th minute, following a cross by defender Abdulrafiu Taiwo.

The 2018 silver medallists, who had not scored a goal in the competition since winning their semi-final clash with Sudan in Marrakech seven years ago, stopped Congo with two goals from nas Yusuf and Sikiru Alimi to return with little respect.

The Eagles are expected back home on Thursday.
