…Slams CAF For Upturning AFCON Victory

Senegal football legend, Sadio Mane has taken a swipe at the Confederation of African Football, CAF over their decision to upturn their AFCON victory in Morocco.
CAF Disciplinary board on Tuesday night shocked the continent and the global football community with the news that Morocco has been awarded the final of the 2025 AFCON by 3-0.
The board argued that Senegal walking out for more than 10 minutes at the final meant they forfeited the match by three goals despite winning on the field of play by a lone goal.
Reacting to the news, the Al Nassr forward said “What happened has gone too far. This is not the football we fight for, not the Africa we believe in.”
He stated “There is too much corruption in our game, and it’s killing the passion of millions of fans across the continent. Players give everything on the pitch, but decisions off it are deciding matches and trophies.”
Mane concluded “I’m deeply disappointed not just for Senegal, but for African football as a whole. We deserve better. The fans deserve fairness, transparency, and respect.”
VDCInsights reports that Senegal has rejected the verdict and said it would appeal the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sports in Lausanne.
Many have condemned Patrice Motsepe led CAF for this unprecedented and shocking verdict saying it does not augur well for African Football, as trophies are not won off the pitch at that level, but on the field of play.
