Sadio Mane Inspires Senegal To Draw With DR Congo

Al Nassr forward, Sadio Mane rescued the Teranga Lions of Senegal in their second group game against DR Congo on Saturday at the Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.

The first half had ended goalless before the Congolese drew the first blood in the 61st minute through Cedric Bakambu but the Senegalese levelled scores in the 69th minute through Mane, which took his tally for Senegal to 51.

The result leaves both sides locked on four points from two games, comfortably placed for progression to the last 16 with one group match remaining on Tuesday.

Senegal stays top on goal difference after their emphatic 3–0 opening win over Botswana, while DR Congo edged Benin 1–0 in their first outing.

…Comoros Denied First AFCON Win

Comoros were left to rue a cruel VAR call after being held to a goalless draw by Zambia in their Africa Cup of Nations Group A clash on Friday, a result that told only half the story.

The tournament minnows thought they had pulled off a famous breakthrough in the 19th minute when Myziane Maolida turned home from close range, finishing off a dazzling run and cross from Rafik Saifi down the left.

The celebrations were short-lived. A VAR review spotted a foul by Yacine Bourhane in the build-up, and the goal was chalked off.

It was a gut punch for Comoros, who played with fearlessness and belief against the 2012 champions.

They went close again late on when Faiz Selemani glanced a header over the bar after captain Youssouf M’Changama floated in a teasing chip.

Zambia, by contrast, laboured through the contest and rarely looked like a side with continental pedigree. For the second game running, they had to settle for a draw.

The stalemate at Stade Mohammed V leaves Comoros, the smallest nation in the 24-team field with just one point from two matches after their opening loss to host Morocco.
Zambia also sits on two points after back-to-back draws.

The stakes now could not be higher. Comoros must beat Mali in Casablanca on Monday to keep their dream alive, while Zambia faces a daunting test against Morocco, needing at least a draw to survive.

Earlier heartbreak may sting, but Comoros showed they belong. Now they must prove it when it matters most.
