A Nigerian passenger has been detained for 18 hours, fined and made to sign documents written in Arabic supposedly to be of good conduct in future.
The Nigerian allegedly touched the buttocks of a Qatar Airways air hostess during a Qatar Airways boarding for a flight from Lagos to the USA via Doha.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, said the female crew member reported the incident when the flight landed in Doha, leading to the arrest and detention of the Nigerian.
Achimugu said in a statement “During the period, his wife suffered mental, physical, and psychological trauma without any form of care. She wondered how her husband could have committed such a despicable infraction given that she was with him throughout the boarding process,” .
He disclosed that the NCAA invited the Country Manager of Qatar Airways in Nigeria to investigate the incident, but he sent his subordinates to attend in his stead.
Qatar Airways, however, refused to fly the Nigerian to the US, prompting him to buy tickets from another airline.
