Aggrieved workers of the FCT Administration on Monday shut the gates of the Secretariat and paralysed business activities within and around the premises.
The workers under aegis of the Joint Union Action Congress (JUAC) shut the gate of the Secretariat in commencement of their indefinite strike declared over poor welfare package and alleged intimidation of workers by security agents.
President of the union, Mrs Rifkatu Lortyer, listed their grievances to include: non-remittance of pension and National Housing Funds deductions and no payment of overheads, unlawful restriction and centralisation of salary preparation and payments.
Others issues according to the union leader include: non-payment of officers of the Abuja Environment Protection Board and Social Development Secretariat engaged to enforce policies, and absence of a financial threshold for Permanent Secretaries (PS), Heads of SDAs, and elongation of tenure for some retired directors and Permanent Secretaries .
Though the management of the FCTA had claimed that they had resolved all issues with the workers but the Union insisted nothing had been resolved, poiting out that 10 out of 14 demands before the management had not been met.
The workers vowed to continue with the strike until their demands were met.
