NSC Demands Reform From NFF To Align With Global Standards

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Malam Shehu Dikko, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting the Nigeria Football Federation, while calling for urgent reforms to align its statutes with global standards

Dikko made this known during the NFF Congress held in Yenagoa, where key stakeholders gathered to deliberate on the future of football administration in the country.

Speaking at the event, Dikko emphasized the readiness of the commission to collaborate with the NFF in ensuring that the reform process is both comprehensive and compliant with international best practices, particularly those of FIFA.

Dikko said “The National Sports Commission under my leadership remains committed to working with the Nigeria Football Federation and all stakeholders in this process,” .

He added “We are ready to provide the necessary institutional support, policy guidance, and legal framework to ensure that the required reforms are properly structured, legally sound, and in line with FIFA principles as well as Nigerian laws.”

The call for reforms is seen as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, transparency, and operational efficiency within Nigerian football.

Meanwhile, the Nigeria Football Federation Congress, has finally approved amendments to the NFF Statutes,March 2026 Edition.

VDCInsights reports that this was one of the highlights of its Emergency General Assembly in Yenagoa, which it noted would shape the future of Nigerian football administration.

The Congress also approved  updates to the Electoral Code and the Standing Orders of the General Assembly, as presented by the Executive Committee.

12 individuals—two from each geopolitical zone—were approved to serve on the NFF Electoral Committee and the Electoral Appeals Committee. 

The Electoral and Appeals Committees will be inaugurated in Abuja on March 25, 2026, and therefore decide who chairs the committees.

The Congress COMMUNIQUE pointed out that “In line with regulations, five members will serve on the Electoral Committee with two alternates, while three will serve on the Appeals Committee with two alternates.”

The Congress also ratified the appointment of Ernst & Young (EY) as the new Independent Auditor of the NFF for an initial four-year term, following a competitive selection process involving seven firms. 

The Congress also commended PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) for its nine years of meritorious service.

Furthermore, delegates approved Lafia as the host city for the 2026 NFF Elective Congress, scheduled to take place on September 26, 2026.

The Congress commended President Bola Tinubu for his massive support to sports and football in particular since assumption of office and also passed  a vote of confidence on the NFF Executive Committee led by Ibrahim Musa Gusau, commending their efforts in advancing football development across Nigeria.
