Maiduguri-based Islamic scholar, Ismail Maiduguri has strongly criticized President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for not responding to Monday’s bomb blasts in Maiduguri, which killed 23 people and injured over 100 during Ramadan iftar.
Maiduguri in a viral video, said: “A bomb went off in Maiduguri on Monday… “During Ramadan, a bomb went off yesterday; over a hundred people were injured. Yet today, the President has gone on a visit to England.”
He added “His vice president, a son of Maiduguri, has gone to Awka, Anambra—Awka—to attend the inauguration ceremony for Soludo’s second term. Now, these leaders of ours, is it true that you really don’t care about us? Is it for real?”
The Islamic cleric wondred why the Vice President could not consider it necessary to visit as a son of Maiduguri. “Your Excellency, if the President doesn’t care, at least this is your hometown—it’s your city. Couldn’t even a single day’s visit… be made? … Yet he went to London, and you went to Soludo’s ceremony.”
He continued: “O Allah, do not place over us rulers who, because of our sins, have no fear of You concerning us and show us no mercy.”
The cleric argued “In Western countries, when a leader is abroad and disaster strikes at home, they immediately cut short their trip and rush back. But here? A tragedy happens and our leaders still go off to ceremonies and foreign visits.”
Maiduguri concluded “And no one dares speak out—because they fear the DSS, right? Let them arrest us! Let them even kill us! On the Day of Resurrection, we will all stand before Allah, and every soul will be called to account.”
