INSECURITY: IGP Meets With Senior Officers, Orders Decisive Action Against Bandits

The Inspector Genearl of Polce, Kayode Egbetokun has ordered his men to take decisive action against bandits who have made security personnel their targets in recent times.

As Nigeria Police recover more bodies  slain by bandits in Benue State, the Inspector General of Police, on Tuesday met with senior police officers in Abuja to brainstorm and map out operational strategies to deal with the heinous crime.

The police boss, who did not specify the number of security operatives murdered in Benue State, when they were ambushed on their way to Katsina-Ala Local Governemnt Area last week ,by non state actors urged his men to come out hard against all criminal elements across the country :

The usual monthly security meeting with senior police officers this time was with heavy heart and pain but the IGP did not fail to remind his men that policing Nigeria demands courageous men and women of the force and more tactical and intelligence approach.

He warned his men to desist from taking sides to recover land on behalf of any complainant and threatened to deal with such erring officers, as many officers have been alleged to be compromised in handling some of these issues.

The police boss also charged the police Commissioners to return to their duty posts with renewed courage and determination to tackle crimes and crimilities during this ember of months.

On Monday, it was reported that eight additional bodies of security personnel had been recovered following a deadly ambush on Police Tactical Teams at Agu Centre in Katsina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack, which occurred on Friday, September 19, was reportedly carried out by suspected armed herdsmen and local militias.

It targeted a joint security team comprising police officers and operatives of the Benue State Community Volunteer Guards, locally known as Anyam Nyor, during a clearance operation near the state border.

Initially, three police officers were confirmed dead, while eight others were declared missing.

Speaking on Tuesday, Chairman of Katsina-Ala LGA, Mr. Justine Shaku, however, confirmed that the bodies of the missing eight personnel have now been found, bringing the total number of casualties to 11.
