It will be mixed feelings for Ikorodu City defender, Marvelous Freedom coming so close but missing out on the Flying Eagles train due to injury.
A last minute injury dealt a big blow to Freedom who was already in Chile but sustained injury during training.
The Ikorodu City’s loss is Wikki Tourists Haruna Ajayi’s gain, as he flies into Chile to take up the place of Freedom on Friday.
The Ikorodu City centre back sustained knee injury and won’t be back within the time frame of the competition, necessitating his replacement.
As a token of love and appreciation,the player received rousing applause from his teammates and officials of the Flying Eagles as he received a gift of a signed No.20 jersey .
The player is expected to fly back to Nigeria on Thursday as the team moves to Talca from Santiago.
Meanwhile the Flying Eagles wrapped up their training camp on Wednesday evening with a session at the Cancha training pitch in Santiago, Chile.
19 Players trained under the watchful eyes of Coach Aliyu Zubairu and his assistants, with the session lasted for 2 hours, from 5 pm to 7 pm local time (9 pm to 11 pm Nigerian time ).
The last training on Wednesday, was the final activity of the 12 day training camp before the team embarked on a trip to Talca City, south of Chile, on Thursday morning.
The team will open account at the Championship in Group F on September 29 against Norway before taking on Saudi Arabia on October 2 and then Colombia on October 5.
