FIFA Finally Clears Arsenal Product, Okonkwo To Play For Nigeria

After months of working behind the scenes and assurances to the player from Nigerian officials the coast is now clear for Wrexham goalkeeper, Arthur Okonkwo to join the league of foreign born players switching their nationality to play for Nigeria.

This followed the cheering news that FIFA has officially approved Okonkwo’s international switch from England to Nigeria.

The 22-year old switch comes at a time football lovers in the country are getting a bit apprehensive over the goalkeeping department of the Super Eagles with first choice keeper, Stan;ey Nwabali clubless and others yet to warm themselves into the heart of Nigerians.

Football fans will be excited with FIFA’s clearance as his addition will significantly strengthen the goalkeeping department as the Super Eagles prepare for major engagements in June.

The Wrexham FC shot-stopper, who previously represented England at youth levels, has now completed all necessary documentation to change his international allegiance.

VDCInsights reports that with FIFA’s endorsement, the former England youth international can now wear the colours of Nigeria in any international match, if Coach Eric Chelle considers him good enough.

Okonkwo has been in excellent form for Wrexham this season, and has been part of the club’s push for promotion in the championship, while his inclusion in any call up will undoubtedly boost competition among the goalkeepers.

VDCInsights had earlier reported that Coach Chelle was busy scouting Europe looking for more Nigerian born players abroad to switch nationality and those not tied to any country to consider their country of origin as against birth place.
