Enyeama Ranks Among Top Three Best African Goalkeepers

Former Nigeria captain Vincent Enyeama has been ranked third among goalkeepers with the most clean sheets in Africa Cup of Nations history.

Enyeama kept 10 clean sheets during his AFCON appearances, tying with Côte d’Ivoire’s Alain Gouaméné and Morocco’s Yassine Bounou.

 Egypt’s Essam El Hadary leads the list with 14, while Ivory Coast’s Boubacar Copa is second with 11.

The top five AFCON clean sheet record holders are:

Essam El Hadary (Egypt) – 14

Boubacar Copa (Côte d’Ivoire) – 11

Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria) – 10

Alain Gouaméné (Côte d’Ivoire) – 10

Yassine Bounou (Morocco) – 10

Enyeama featured in five tournaments — 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2013, helping Nigeria secure four bronze medals and ultimately lifting the trophy in 2013.

Enyeama has 101 caps (appearances) for the Nigerian national team (Super Eagles), making him Nigeria’s most-capped goalkeeper and formerly the most-capped player overall before being surpassed by Ahmed Musa with 111 caps.

He played for Nigeria from 2002 until his retirement from international football in 2015, serving as captain from 2013.
