D’Tigers Depart For 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifying Series

The National men’s basketball team, D’Tigress have departed for Tunisia just as the Federation of International Basketball Association (FIBA) has released its latest power rankings ahead of the first window of the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifying series. 

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, are 8th on the rankings, as they prepare for their group fixtures scheduled to take place in Tunis, Tunisia. 

The qualifiers are set to tip off on Thursday, with teams from across the continent battling for early momentum on the road to the global showpiece.

The ranking reflects recent performances and current squad potential as nations gear up for a competitive round of games. 

D’Tigers will be hoping to produce a strong outing in this window as they look to secure their place at the World Cup and rebuild confidence following a challenging period on and off the court. 

Nigeria will face tough opposition in the qualifying series, but the team remains determined to prove its worth and climb higher in the rankings. 

All eyes now turn to Tunis as the action begins this week, with Nigeria in group C alongside the host, Tunisia, Rwanda and Guinea. 

The African qualifiers for the 2027 FIBA World Cup  will unfold across five windows from November 2025 to February 2027,featuring 16 teams drawn into four groups following their qualification for FIBA Afrobasket 20025.

The team will be tutored by ex-international, Abdulrahman Mohammed, supported by Akindele Ayodeji from the US and Bahrain based Job Nelson with Onye u hi Onyeka serving as video coach.
