CAF Appoints Senegalese,Issa Sy For Super Eagles, Desert Foxes Quarter Final Clash

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has named Senegalese, Issa Sy to replace Somalian Omar Artan as match official for the AFCON 2025 quarter-final encounter between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and Algeria’s Desert Foxes

Sy is widely seen as one of the continent’s most highly rated officials.

Nigeria and Algeria are set to face off today, Saturday at the Stade de Marrakech.

The fixture, of course, brings back memories of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations semi-final, which the North Africanswon a contest Algeria won 2–1.

Kick of time is 5pm, Nigerian time. 

In the emantime, Nigeria, the three times champion of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON), will face Algeria for the 23rd time in history, since their first encounter in Lagos at the 2nd All-Africa Games 55 years ago.

Today,Saturday’s match will be their 10th meeting at the Nations Cup, with Nigeria on three wins, Algeria four, while the other two ended in draws.

The city of Marrakech is buzzing with excitement as Morocco is the site of one of their famous joinsts, the AFCON semifinal in 1988.

The nail bitting game went into penalty shootout, which Nigeria won with late shot stopper, Peter Rufai’s goalkeeping prowess leading the headlines.

Morocco is the country — Marrakech the city — Stade de Marrakech the place to be — by 5:00pm to watch the crucial match.

Between Nigeria and Algeria, whoever makes it to the semifinals will face hosts, Morocco.
