Chairman of BUA Group, Abdul Samad Rabiu, has commended the Super Eagles for their gallant performance at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), assuring the team that his $500,000 monetary pledge remains intact despite their semi-final defeat.

Nigeria’s campaign ended on Wednesday after the Super Eagles lost 4-2 on penalties to host nation Morocco following a tense, goalless encounter after extra time at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Reacting to the outcome, Rabiu praised the players for their courage, unity and determination, describing their performance as one that brought pride to the nation
In a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the billionaire businessman congratulated the team for their resilience and commitment throughout the tournament. “You fought with your hearts, gave your all, and showed true courage on the pitch.
Every Nigerian is proud of you,” Rabiu said. He noted that football results do not always reflect the effort invested, stressing that the team’s fighting spirit and unity resonated strongly with Nigerians both at home and abroad.
“Sometimes our best efforts don’t bring the outcome we desire, but the spirit and unity you displayed truly matter,” he added. Rabiu confirmed that he would still fulfil his $500,000 pledge as a mark of appreciation for the players’ hard work, dedication and the joy they brought to the country.
He said “I am going ahead with the $500,000 pledge in recognition of your hard work, dedication and the joy you brought to our nation,”.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Rabiu initially made the pledge following Nigeria’s 2-0 victory over Algeria in the quarter-final stage of the tournament.
Encouraging the players to remain focused, the BUA chairman expressed confidence that the experience gained at the competition would inspire greater success in the future. “Keep your heads high. This experience will fuel greater victories. Nigeria believes in you,” Rabiu said.
