Spain defeated defending champions Argentina by a lone goal to win the 23rd World cup hosted by Mexico, Canada and United States of America. ,
Ferran Torres scored the winning goal in extra time to hand the Spaniard their second world cup trophy.
Interestingly, it was another landmark achievement for Spain as they have become the first country in football history to hold both the men’s and women’s World Cup titles at the same time.
Worthy of note also is that they are European Champions and world champions just as they did in 2010 when theuy won the world cup in South Africa as European Champions in 2008 after defeating Germany 1-0 in the final of the Euros.
There were ugly scenes after final whistle as Argentina’s Paredes was involved in scuffles with some Spanish players
Though Argentina played extra time with 10 men after Enzo Fernandez was sent off in 93rd minute, but it did not detract from the quality and dominance of Spain.
Spain will co-host the 2030 World Cup along with Portugal and Morocco and you would not bet against them there, either.
Before then is a Euros spread across Britain and they will surely head into that as favourites.
The future looks bright for Spain with a plethora of young talent at their disposal. Have we entered a period of genuine dominance for La Roja?
