Political paries can now heave a sigh of relief following the extension of deadline for upload of candidates for the Presidential and National Assembly for 2027 Elections.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission of lists of candidates by political parties for the 2027 Presidential and National Assembly elections from Saturday, July 11, to midnight on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.
In an official statement signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, and made available to VDCInsights the extension followed an appeal by the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) on behalf of political parties that were unable to upload the names and personal particulars of their candidates within the stipulated time frame.
Haruna said that the “decision reflects the Commission’s commitment to ensuring inclusivity in the electoral process while operating strictly within the provisions of the law”.

He urged all political parties to take advantage of the extension to complete the upload of their candidates’ details before the new deadline expires.
The extension provides political parties with an additional opportunity to comply with INEC’s requirements ahead of the 2027 general election, ensuring that all eligible candidates are duly captured within the electoral timetable.
