Maikaba Leads Flying Eagles, As Uwejamomere Lands U17 Job

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has approved the appointments of experienced tacticians Abdu Maikaba and Eboboritse Uwejamomere as head coaches of the country’s U20 and U17 boys’ national teams respectively.

The appointments were endorsed by the Executive Committee of the NFF following recommendations from the Federation’s Technical and Development Committee.

Maikaba, who takes charge of the U20 national team, the Flying Eagles, brings a wealth of coaching experience to the role. The seasoned tactician has previously handled the Golden Eaglets, Nigeria’s U17 boys’ team, and also served as assistant coach of the Flying Eagles during the tenure of former head coach Paul Aigbogun.

Widely respected for his calm demeanour and tactical discipline, Maikaba has managed several top clubs in the Nigeria Professional Football League, including Enyimba FC, Wikki Tourists FC, Kano Pillars FC and Plateau United FC.

One of the highlights of his coaching career came in 2017 when he guided Akwa United FC to victory in the country’s oldest football competition, now known as the President Federation Cup.

Meanwhile, Uwejamomere has been named head coach of the Golden Eaglets, five-time world champions at U17 level.

The highly-rated coach has worked extensively with Nigeria’s senior national teams as a performance analyst and youth development specialist.

He has served for several years as coach-analyst with the Nigeria national football team, popularly known as the Super Eagles, and also worked with the Nigeria women’s national football team, the Super Falcons.

Currently, Uwejamomere is head of academy at Sporting Lagos FC, which recently secured promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League.

His coaching résumé also includes youth development roles in England with Millwall FC, Gillingham FC and Nottingham Forest FC.

He also previously served as head coach of Abeokuta-based Stormers FC.

The appointments are seen as part of the NFF’s efforts to strengthen the country’s youth football structure ahead of upcoming continental and international competitions.Soccer
