
The Chief of Staff to the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Salihu Abubakar, has sent a message of congratulations to Mallam Shehu Dikko for his nomination for the prestigious Sportsville Sports Transformative Impact Award.
VDCInsights reports that the NSC Chairman was among several other sports administrators nominated for honour during the 6th edition of Sportsville Award coming up on March 28th in Lagos.
Abubakar said “I am excited to see his name among those to receive a Sportsville’s award this year. And the category of his award is apt, Transformative Impact Award”.
“This is well deserved honour for a man who is giving his all to transform Nigeria sports.
He added “I have been working with Mallam Dikko since his days at the Nigeria Professional League Management Committee (LMC), and now as the Chairman of the National Sports Commission and I can tell you that only few in this country are as passionate and hardworking as Dikko.
The one time NPFL Secretary added “His vision for sports for the nation is infectious and I am proud to be in his team. Most Nigerians may not see the foundation he is laying today but in few years to come, our sports sectors will be so transformed to the admiration of all,”.
…Categories Of Awardees Unveiled
There is mixed excitement within the national sports community as stakeholders look forward to the unveiling of nominees for this year’s Sportsville Special Recognition Awards.
VDCInsights reports that a total of 18 names are set to be honoured in seven award categories, and the committee had to extend its deliberations to late Monday morning to fine tune the list.
The categories are; Icon, Sports Personality of the Year, Sports Transformative Award as well as Achievers Category.Other categories are, Visionary Leadership, Special Recognition, Sports Facilities (both private and government), and corporate categories.
Harry Iwuala, the chairman of the awards committee, disclosed that nominees have been carefully selected based on their pedigree and their contributions to sports development in the nation.
“It has been a herculean task trying to narrow down the lengthy list of deserving individuals and corporate bodies to the few names we are expected to present, but my colleagues and I have applied our best judgment to carry out the task.
Iwuala added “So, I can confidently say that we have been able, though tough, to do a great job that will continue to put premium value on the Sportsville Award,,”.
Other members of the committee are experienced sports journalists and award winning television and radio sports show presenters, Toyin Ibitoye and Salihu Ibrahim PhD. Sports Editor of the Sun newspaper, Joe Apu and Samuel Ahmedu.
There is also Ayoola Adeleke, Joy Obayemi, and Sportsville’s Chief Operating Officer and anchor of Sportsville, Mathew Okugbe, completing the list of highly experienced professionals in sports journalism with a combined experience of over 60 years
