East Africans Dominate Access Lagos City Marathon, As Kenya’s Kipchumba Wins

The Gold Label Access Bank Lagos City Marathon race came to a climax on Valentine's day with Kenya's Ezra Kipchumba storming to victory in 2:11:15 to smile home with the star prize of $50,000.

The race dominated by the East Africans, saw Kipchumba powering home ahead of two Ugandans, to write his name in gold among Africa’s elite marathoners.

Uganda’s Lomoi Samuel clocked 2:11:59 to finish second while compatriot, Namutala Kephar Lumbasi secured third in 2:12:25, rounding off a tightly contested battle that kept spectators on edge until the final stretch.

In the women’s event, Ethiopia’s Dinke Meseret Meleka powered to victory in a time of 2:37:36 followed by Kenya’s Daniel Flomena Cheyech in 2:37:43,and Ethiopia’s Getaw Wgagen Zewdalem coming in third in 2:38:59.
