Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has said a shared vision of developing the South East endeared him to President Bola Tinubu and his decision to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Mbah said in President Tinubu he saw a man not afraid of taking bold decisions that will transform the country in the days and years to come.
The Governor stated this on Tuesday during his official defection from the Peoples Democratic Party that brought him into power to the central government ruling APC.
He argued that his desire to align with the APC’s vision for development and progress as the reason for his decision to dump the PDP.
Mbah explained that his move to the APC was aimed at advancing the state’s interests and ensuring better collaboration for growth.
He expressed optimism that the APC would enable his administration to deliver more effectively on its developmental agenda than the PDP.
The Governor aid “To the Peoples Democratic Party which provided us the platform on which we campaigned and won, I extend deep gratitude. The PDP supported us through a demanding campaign and joined us in celebrating the victory,”.
According to him “Leadership demands difficult, even painful decisions, in the service of higher principles and goals. And there comes always a time where everyone must make a bold choice to determine their destiny. Today, after a long reflection, we have made a decision to join the All Progressives Congress.”
The governor also thanked his former party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), for its support over the years said the switch was necessary to achieve his administration’s long-term goals.
His defection follows that of several members of his cabinet who had earlier joined the APC on Monday, signaling the governor’s imminent move.”
Mbah joining the APC from the PDP makes it the third governor from the PDP to defect to the APC from Akwa Ibom Governor to that of Delta State, leaving the party badly depleted.
