Rwandan Coach Talks Tough Ahead Of 2026 WC Qualifiers Against Falconets

Rwanda’s U-20 women’s national team has officially opened camp as preparations intensify for their FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against the national U20 Women’s National Team, Falconets.

The squad assembled in Kigali over the weekend, with players drawn from local clubs will have the foreign-based stars join in the coming days.

Head coach Cassa addressed the team at the start of training, charging them to approach the challenge with confidence and commitment: “Be fearless, be focused, obey the rhythm of tactics”.

Cassa told the players, “We respect Nigeria, but we will not be intimidated. If we work hard and stick to the plan, we can make our nation proud.”

The coach and his assistants have lined up intensive drills, fitness sessions, and tactical rehearsals to get the team in top shape before facing the seven-time African champions.

Rwanda will host the first leg at the Kigali Stadium on September 21, while the return fixture is scheduled for a week later in Nigeria.

The winner over two legs will progress to the next stage of the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

Team officials have expressed confidence in the young Wasps’ ability to rise to the occasion, while calling on fans to turn out in numbers to cheer the girls in Kigali.

Nigeria has had an impressive performance at this level qualifying for every edition and reaching the finals the U20 World Cup on two occasions in 2010 and 2014 and losing both to Germany.
