—Nine Matches Hold On Sunday
The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League got off to an interesting game with two former champions opening the season.
Defending Champions, Remo Stars failed to take advantage of their playing at home against Rivers United, who forced them to a 1-1 draw in the first game of the season.
Rivers United took the lead as early as the third minute through a header by Aniekeme Okon but the homers fought back and within six minutes levelled the scores through Victor Mbaoma .
Mbaoma was to be replaced later on as he picked up a knock and Adama Goita came in his place,
Rivers were reduced to 10 men in the closing minutes of the game after defender Temple Emekayi got his marching orders for a dangerous high-footed tackle.
Despite the superiority in number Remo Stars could take advantage, and allowed the visitors to share the points.
Remo Stars will next visit Kun Khalifat while Rivers United welcome Kwara United.
The remaining fixtures for match day one will see interesting match ups such as the Oriental derby between Rangers and new comers Kun Khalifa of Owerri ,Abia Warriors and Kano Pillars Barau FC welcoming Enyimba.
Others fixtures are Tornadoes will welcome Nasarawa United, Wikki Tourists will be at home against Plateau United, Kwara United will be up against Ikorodu United, Shooting Stars will trade tackles with Bayelsa United ,new comers Warri Wolves will be away to Katsina United while Elkanemi entertain Bendel Insurance.
