AFROBASKET: Senegal Neutralizes NBA Star, Josh Okogie To Stop D’Tigers’ Semis Dream

The Senegal national men’s basketball team on Wednesday stopped the Cinderella run of D’Tigers at the ongoing 2025 AfroBasket Championships in Angola.

The dream of D’Tigers to follow in the footsteps of D’Tigress was halted by a more determined and better Senegalese team.

The Senegalese, who took the jump ball, got the first two points, but D’Tigers leveled up, and they ran neck to neck before the Nigerian men took the first quarter by a slim point victory at 24-23.

In the second quarter, the Senegalese came out smoking, and their efforts paid off with 30-18 points to open an 11-point lead as the halftime scores stood at 53-42.

Any hope of D’Tigers coming back into the game was extinguished in the third quarter as the Senegalese increased the pressure and won 23-13 to widen their lead going into the last quarter.

D’Tigers, however, roared back in the last quarter which they won 20-15, but it was not good enough to overhaul the lead of the Senegalese, who wrapped up the game 91-75

D’Tigers’ game leader and NBA star, Josh Okogie, was missing in action, as he could only manage a disappointing four points as against the 33 he scored in a group game earlier.

The game leader on both sides was Senegal’s Brancou Badio, who scored 32 points with an efficiency rate of 29 percent.
