2030 C/W GAMES: Wike Upgrades Infrastructure To Win Hosting Rights

 Nigeria is becoming intentional about its ambition to host the 2030 Commoinwealth Games, if given the hosting rights ahead of India.

The country which is bidding to become the first African country to host the Games is backing President Bola Tinubu’s personal interest and support for the Games with visible investment in infrastructure ahead of the Games.

Sequel to this, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has committed himself to working towards securing the hosting rights and has assured of continuous upgrade of both roads and other infrastructure in Abuja to meet international standards.

The minister who was speaking on the plans of Nigeria to host the games said it will be difficult for the nation to host the games without  good network of roads,

Wike stated this while flagging-off the construction of the Access Arterial Road S1, stretching from Ring Road 2 to the FCT Fire Service Station in the Kaura District of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC).

The Minister said apart from meeting the demands of the people for good  road network, the  construction of roads is also aim at telling the  world that Nigeria has a city that can host the next Commonwealth Games. 

The Commonwealth Bid Committee had visited the country in September, to hold discussions with the country’s Bid Committee led by Mainasara illo. The Nigeria team also visited United Kingdom to make their presentation for the hosting rights.

The country is anchoring its bid on inclusivity. opportunity for African and Commonwealth youth and legacy of sporting infrastructure and developement. Nigeria is arguing strongly that no African country has hosted the games and it would fitting and propper for Nigeria to host the Centenary games in 2030.

The Winner of the bid is expected to be announced late November, 2025 for the host city to have enough time to prepare for the games without hitches.
