Morocco finally reaped the benefits of their massive investments in sports in the last few years with a night to remember at the 2025 CAF Awards in Rabat, Morocco. In the last couple of years now, the country has been the destination of choice for both continental and global football events a result of their investments in sports and impressive organisational ability.

The 2025 CAF Awards belonged to Morocco and it was a night to be proud to be a Moroccan as the country for the first time scooped the pretigious Male and Female Best Player Of the Year.

Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi, finally had his day after last year’s disappointment as he was named the 2025 African Player of the Year at the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Awards held in Rabat, Morocco.

The 27-year-old Paris Saint-Germain defender edged Egypt’s Mohamed Salah and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to claim the continent’s top individual honour, following a season in which he helped PSG secure the French league title and their first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy.

Hakimi, who previously finished as runner-up in 2023 and 2024, becomes the first Moroccan footballer to win the award since Mustapha Hadji in 1998.

In the women’s category, Morocco captain Ghizlane Chebbak clinched the African Women’s Player of the Year award, beating Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade and compatriot Sanaa Mssoudy.

Winners in all categories were determined by a voting panel comprising members of CAF’s technical committee, African media professionals, coaches, and players.
