The national men’s basketball team. D’Tigers will seek to book a semi final ticket and a slot at 2026 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualifying tournaments at the ongoing 2025 Afrobasket Championship in Angola on Wednesday.
The team has so far had an impressive run at the championship despatching Madagascar 77-59, defending champions, Tunisia 87-66 and Cameroon 101-92 to reach this stage.
Victory for D’Tigers will rekindle hope of repeat of the feat of the Class of 2015 and also following the footsteps of the national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress who also won the 2025 Afrobasket, a record fifth consecutive time.
Senegal, a five-time AfroBasket champion, secured their quarterfinal spot with a 78–65 playoff win over South Sudan, following a 2–1 group stage record with wins against Uganda (88–53) and Mali (84–70), but a loss to Egypt (91–77).
With a rich tournament history and physical prowess led by standout Brancou Badio, Senegal poses a formidable challenge as both teams battle for a sem ifinal ticket and a spot in the 2026 FIBA Basketball World Cup Qualifying Tournaments.
